A BITTER CUP TO SWALLOW

Do you really want your coffee purchase to help reward mercenaries?

The Starbucks chain’s CEO Gerry Schwartz is one of two founding supporters (along with Heather Rieseman of Chapters-Indigo-Coles) of the Heseg Foundation, which provides support for so-called ‘lone soldiers’ from other countries who join the Israeli Army. These soldiers-for-hire do not have to serve there but are paid to enforce the illegal occupation of Palestinian lands: in other words, they are mercenaries. The occupying army (or Israeli Defense Force) has a proven record of human rights abuses, and the board of the Heseg Foundation includes former generals wanted internationally for war crimes. Supporting them with your coffee business could leave a bad taste in your mouth while contributing to headaches for peace in the Middle East.

TASTE JUSTICE INSTEAD!

Please support the boycott of Starbucks by buying your beverages elsewhere. There are plenty of other coffee shops in London; you can also get great organic fair-trade coffee from local independent outlets. Our community doesn’t need corporate coffee!
