Features
The articles in the centre column of the web site are referred to as "features." These articles are posted by London Indymedia organizers, although we seek feature article submissions from outside our group.
Anyone may submit a potential feature article by posting to the London Indymedia mailing list (london-ontario-imc at lists . indymedia . org) (which is publicly archived). (You do not have to be a member of the list to post to it.) Or simply submit a piece to the newswire (see below), and we will consider featuring your article.
For now we are looking for features with somewhat of a London area angle.
If there are no objections from the London Indymedia group, the feature will be posted to the site by an organizer with an admin account.
Articles
The open publishing column on the right hand of the site is made up of article submissions. Anyone can post articles to site without prior approval.
The open articles section is for:
- Reporting, commentary, interviews, announcements, and reviews that support and encourage activism.
- Stories not covered elsewhere: ideas/views that can't be heard elsewhere due to the limitations of the corporate media.
- Text, photos, and audio
- Posts written in a way that are open and accessible to a wide range of people, for example, avoiding jargon, technical and specialist vocabulary.
Hidden posts
Although London Indymedia tries to avoid removing articles from the main page -- thereby hiding them -- we reserve the right to hide posts from the site, particularly if posts contravene any of these following guidelines:
- Advertising : Posts with personal or product promotions.
- Degrading and/or Hateful : posts using language, imagery, or other forms of communication promoting racism, fascism, xenophobia, sexism or any other form of harmful discrimination.
- Inaccurate : Posts that are inaccurate or misleading.
- Establishment : The newswire is not a notice-board or promotional outlet for political parties or other established mainstream organizations.
- Personal attacks
- Comments on editorial policy. (Contact the mailing list instead.)
Also, note that the London Indymedia site has a particular mandate that we have attempted to describe above -- under the "Articles" subheading.
Hidden posts can be found in the "Hidden Articles" section, which is accessible from the main page. There is also a "Hidden Comments" section that can be reached via the "view comments" section, which is the main page links to.
Hide requests
Anyone can rate comments and newswire articles -- either to try to have these hidden from view, or to try prevent them from being hidden. Users of the site may also e-mail the London Indymedia mailing list to request that posts be hidden or unhidden.
People with admin accounts are able to hide posts.
