Often, one of the goals of an action, rally or event is to bring public awareness to an issue through the media coverage. One thing to remember about media coverage is, that to due to limitations of time and space, stories are usually required to be short and concise. This can make it difficult or impossible for a reporter to present a comprehensive picture of an event and the varied views which may be presented by its participants. Its unlikely that the speech you stayed up all night writing will be carried in full. More likely, one or two lines will be quoted with little context. It may be useful to try to focus your message down to a few concise and powerful soundbytes that can be emphasised by anyone who finds themselves talking the media. This often works best if all participants commit to sticking to the agreed-upon soundbytes when speaking to reporters, rather going off on a tangent and giving reporters more choice in quotes to use. Concentrating and coordinating the message into a few sound bytes can help a group manage the coverage more effectively.

In the U.S, the GOP uses this on a national level with politicians all using the same soundbyte, almost verbatim, and I have to say, they're really good at it.
